When to Admit a Patient with a Diabetic Foot Infection

This lecture will assist providers when needing to determine when to admit a patient versus treating them as an outpatient with a diabetic foot infection. It will highlight some of the important questions to be asked as part of the history along with the clinical testing needed to confirm the diagnosis.

  1. Identify those patients that can be managed at home versus those that need admission.
  2. Demonstrate different clinical signs and symptoms to help with management of diabetic foot infections (DFIs).
  3. Identify the appropriate indications and technique for obtaining a culture.
