Goal and Objective
After participating in this activity, the viewer should be better able to:
1. Define the general definition of the Metabolic Syndrome.
2. Describe the role that insulin resistance plays in causing the Metabolic Syndrome.
3. List the various ways in which the adipose tissue contributes to the development of the Metabolic Syndrome.
4. Define the International Diabetes Federation definition of the Metabolic Syndrome and utilize in the assessment of patients thought to have or at risk for the Metabolic Syndrome.
5. Become familiar with the relationship between the Metabolic Syndrome and macrovascular disease.
6. List who is at highest risk for developing the Metabolic Syndrome.
